Port of Belfast

Harbour Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, UK)

Belfast Port handles about 60 per cent of Northern Ireland's maritime trade and 25 per cent of commerce for the entire island of Ireland. It is Ireland's principal maritime gateway and the port handles two million travellers, 340,000 freight vehicles and 450,000 passenger vehicles per year. Annual traffic of ships through the harbour is now almost 20,000.

Facilities at the port are limited, although light beverages are available in the Passenger Terminal's Departures area. There is an ATM in the Departures lounge that is only accessible to departing travellers.

The ATM accepts Visa and Mastercard, and most other British cash cards. In the Arrivals area, vending machines provide small snacks and candy. The Motorist Terminal, next to the car lanes, also has vending machines.

The Port of Belfast is situated in the middle of the city's largest industrial and commercial zone. Over 60 per cent of the region's principal industrial employers are located here. The port is also located close to the centre of Belfast, which is easy accessible due to excellent transport infrastructure. Passenger ferries operate sea connections to Scotland and Great Britain.

Ferry Services

With the port handling over two million travellers and about 450,000 passenger vehicles each year, Belfast Port is Northern Ireland's busiest passenger port. Ferries depart from the port for crossings to ports on the Isle of Man, at Stranrear and at Liverpool.

There are 16 daily passenger crossings from the Port of Belfast. Stena Line provides voyages to Stranrear; Isle of Man Steam Packet Company offers crossings to the Isle of Man; and Norse Merchant Ferries make the trip to Liverpool.
